There are many reasons why you should have an engagement shoot.
You may have booked your Photographer on the basis of their online portfolio but an engagement shoot provides the chance to see them at work, doing what they do best; understand how they ‘create’ and have them show you their style and personality as well as getting to know your personalities!
A good photographer will take note of how you interact with each other, what makes you laugh, smile, and what makes you feel that tender love for one another. These mental notes will help capture those unique moments on the wedding day.
You will also be more relaxed around your photographer at the wedding, now that you have created a bond and will feel at utter ease as the photographer directs you on how to pose, which for some can be pretty scary.
Think of it as a rehearsal in an environment/location that can be meaningful to you both. This could be a place you got engaged or where you went on your first date, or a place where you both like to spend time together. Plus you are sure to feel more at ease in an environment you’re familiar with.
I always give a few tips on how to prepare for your engagement: Have your hair and makeup test done on the same day as your engagement or try and do your makeup as close to the wedding day makeup as possible. Wear clothes that are smart but casual, outfits that makes you feel good about yourself. And remember to bring props. A picnic basket, champagne, flowers, books or any items that are a part of your relationship.
There are many things you can do with your engagement images once you have them. They can be given as gifts to the family, used on the save-the-date cards, the wedding program or a portrait to hang in the home, which I offer in some of my engagement packages.
Whatever you choose to do, the most important thing is that you have fun with your photographer, get to know each other, relax and get creative!!
I love this engagement shoot with Sibila and Andre in Perth, they were nervous about having their picture taken, by the end of the day there was a lot of laughter and this put them right at ease for their big day.
