As I step off the plane and filled my lungs with the warm Italian air, holding my hand above my eyes to take in the surrounding mountains and exotic trees, this was going to be an incredible 3 days. I jumped in a cab and started my climb up the mountain to the most magnificent view of the Amalfi Coast. A place made for dreams, a magical, romantic, awe-inspiring location for a wedding. And what a wedding it was, not only are the couple just as gorgeous as the location, their style was utterly classic a fairy-tale, they had picked the most perfect location for their enchanting wedding and I was so thrilled to be apart of it! A few words from the couple below and check out the published version in the July Issue of “You and your wedding”
Stephen spent months throwing me off the scent to the point where I was convinced getting engaged was not on the cards. We planned to book a long weekend staying at the beautiful Belmond Saint Andrea in Taormina, Sicily as we had always wanted to go and are obsessed with Italian food and wine! Every time we went away friends would say ‘oooh he’s going to propose’ so it was always in the back of my mind but I couldn’t imagine he could hide anything from me!
When we arrived Stephen had arranged for me to have a massage to distract me so he could plan the proposal with the hotel manager Carlo.
Stephen had organised dinner on the first night and while waiting in the bar for our ‘taxi’ to collect us Stephen was called out for a ‘phonecall’. Carlo then came back for me leading me through the hotel, staff lined the corridor and as I walked back into our suite Stephen is out on the moonlit terrace surrounded by candles, music by our favourite composer Ludovico Einaudi playing and a beautiful candlelit dinner including my favourite dish – lobster linguine and of course champagne. I was overwhelmed with butterflies. The most nervous I have ever seen him, he said “I love you…” bending down onto one knee asking me to be his wife with my absolute dream ring. What a night!
Choosing the venue:
The venue was so private, had the incredible views we wanted and could accommodate our immediate family and a pool party the following day. We originally looked into Santorini but we didn’t fall in love with it like Ravello. We looked at around 7 venues in total.
The wedding inspiration:
We wanted that classic old Italian feel with a modern romantic twist so we opted for black tie, white with dusty pink and rose gold accents to keep it modern. Megan adores roses, there were roses everywhere, in the arch, bouquets, centrepieces, edible rose petals in cocktails, rose liqueur for the ‘pimp your prosecco bar’ and even rose lights. The vibe was modern romance, we wanted everyone to feel relaxed while also maintaining that decadent vibe of a magical special occasion.
I found my dress whilst working for Watters at a show, I was having fun playing around with dresses but when I put this particular dress on the reaction from the girls I was working with said it all! It wasn’t at all what I had thought I would go for but it had the perfect combination of romance, modernity and a young, sexy feel without being too revealing. I loved the flower motifs and the tier which gave it such a unique look plus it was so comfortable and fitted me like a glove. I didn’t end up having any alterations which was amazing! I tried a few others on just to have the experience with my mum, sister and mother-in-law but my heart was already set on this one from the start. Nothing else could compete.
Walking down the aisle with my dad, after him being unwell just after we got engaged it was a worry in the back of our minds that he may not get to walk me down the aisle and we did consider bringing the wedding forward. Thankfully he fully recovered and it made it even more special on the day. Plus seeing each other after spending a long 17 hours apart and knowing this was our big moment where all of our dreams and visions come to light was incredible. We both had to take a breath.
A funny moment during the ceremony was when the registrar’s dog kept coming into the gardens and standing by her, was actually very sweet, just another show of love!
Advice for couples:
Make sure your wedding is about you. It’s great to think of your guests and what is easiest for them in the way of location and accessibility for accommodation etc but ultimately you are forking out hard-earned money on a day that represents you and what you both love, so really think about what you both want even if it is unconventional because that’s what really makes a wedding special is when your guests connect with your wedding as it totally represents your personalities as a couple.
