After photographing Harriet and Jay for their pre-wedding shoot my heart skipped a beat as I knew they were going to be such a warm, wonderful, fun couple to capture. Their wedding was full of amazing family, friends and great music… Helps when the dad’s a rock star. They are such an incredibly warm-hearted and effortlessly stylish people…I won’t go on to much but will let the images tell you the rest of the story. But I will say it was a wedding that captured the essence of the hidden utopia within our wonderful British countryside, merging the old with the new and creating a spectacular wedding hideaway.
Harriet and Jay have shared some words with us, so after you see these beauties, please scroll down to read her story!
Jay took me off to Bath for the weekend for what I thought was a little belated birthday getaway. Little did I know that he had in-fact had this trip planned for quite some time with the only two people who already knew were my dad, who he had taken for a beer to ask for his permission, and my best friend Dani who he took with him for a second opinion when choosing the ring. When Jay went down on one knee, I really was a blubbering mess and got make-up all over his fresh white shirt which resulted in a last minute outfit change before our very fancy dinner that he had already arranged at the hotel’s Michelin star restaurant. The whole evening was very surreal to say the least and all I wanted to do was tell everyone our good news! The next couple of days really were a whirlwind of champagne-filled celebrations before we began the ‘Wedmin’ in earnest…
Choosing the Venue:
HARRIET: I have always had my heart set on getting married at my family home in Sussex; I have been planning it since I was about 5 years of age!! It was everything that I dreamt of and more and I cannot thank my parents enough for all their effort and hard-work in making the place look so spectacular
The wedding inspiration:
We wanted a very traditional marquee wedding in the garden. Jay is a professional polo player in his spare time and since polo is such a huge part of his family life, we wanted to subtly incorporate this into the big day hence the favours and table names.
My dress was from Suzanne Neville where a good friend of ours works. I went along to my first appointment at their flagship Knightsbridge store with my mum, sisters (Sarah and Olivia) and best friend Dani, along with my aunts Pat and June. Harriet (our friend who works there) knew exactly the sort of dress that I wanted without me even really having to tell her. The dress that I chose was the second that she had me try on and we all knew that it was exactly ‘The One’ when everyone broke down in tears as soon as I stepped out of the dressing room. The whole team at Suzanne Neville were absolutely fantastic, they made the whole experience extremely special and memorable; I really cannot thank them enough for my ‘dream’ dress.
We really did have the best day; its so hard to pick one moment as we loved them all! The speeches were great; Jay’s best friend Pete gave a very emotive best-mans speech telling stories of them growing up, which finished with not a dry eye in the house. He had put together a wonderful video slideshow of Jay ‘Through The Years’ which will be a great keepsake from the day.
Advice for couples:
Everyone will say so but the lead up to and the day itself really does flash by before your very eyes. Be sure to take it all in as best you can, try not to get stressed or upset over the trivial things that no one else will even notice (as hard as that is to do)
